dust a typer for writing

A calm place to write.

Plain Markdown, kept on your device and synced quietly. For Mac, iPad, and iPhone, or in your browser right now.

Dust on a Mac: library and sheet list on the left, a warm paper editor on the right. Dust on a Mac in the Dusk theme: library and sheet list on the left, the editor on the right.
The same sheet open in Dust on an iPhone. The same sheet open in Dust on an iPhone, in the Dusk theme.

The Page

One column on warm paper, and nothing else. Headings, emphasis, lists, and links are plain Markdown, styled quietly as you type. A word count sits in the corner; everything else stays in a panel until you ask.

Long sheets stay quick. Dust draws only what’s on screen, so a full manuscript types like a single page.

Dust on an iPad with both side panels hidden, a single column of text on paper. The same page in the Dusk theme.
Two themes: Paper for daylight, Dusk for the evening.

What’s Inside

The Library. Folders inside folders, as deep as the project goes. Every sheet shows its word count and when you last touched it. Filter by title or keyword. Mark a sheet as a Note to keep research and cut material next to the draft without it landing in the manuscript.

History. Dust saves a snapshot every couple of minutes while you write, and whenever you ask. Open any version, see what changed, restore it in one step. Your current text is saved first, so nothing is lost by going back.

Export. Any sheet exports to Markdown or PDF. No account, no waiting. It opens in any editor, with or without Dust.

Sync. Each device keeps a complete copy of your library, so Dust works offline and opens instantly. There is nothing to set up: on Mac, iPad, and iPhone, Dust opens an anonymous account the first time it runs and carries changes in the background. Sign in with Apple to bring the same library to a second device. A slow connection never slows the editor. A copy of your synced sheets rests on Dust’s servers so your devices can meet; the Privacy page has the details. In the web editor, nothing leaves your browser until you sign in.

Nothing in the Margin

The page is clear so the words on it are yours.

  • Your words, unassisted. No autocomplete, no rewriting, no chatbot beside the draft.
  • A room for one. No shared cursors, no feed, no followers.
  • Write when you write. No streaks, badges, or reminders.
  • Edit on your terms. No squiggles second-guessing a sentence in progress.

Made by One Person

I’m AJ, and Dust is my typer. When you write to support, you reach me. Your sheets export to plain Markdown any time and open in any editor you like, today or in twenty years. Dust holds nothing hostage.
